For those of you who are new to the podcast — I have 3 older brothers and for as long as I can remember we have been arguing about sports. If you go way back to the beginning of the podcast, the Brothers Roundtable started as Episode 4, and every NHL playoffs we get together for these unfiltered sessions to banter about all things sports. If you’re not a sports fan, you can probably disregard this one… but if you enjoy some friendly (and occasionally loud) brotherly banter, then buckle up. This is our final roundtable before we head off on the SNP road trip that begins July 5th.
In this episode, we deep dive into the NHL offseason, celebrating the Carolina Hurricanes’ championship culture, elite cap management, and “tight ship” under Rod Brind’Amour, while contrasting it with the contract mismanagement plaguing teams like the Edmonton Oilers. We discuss Mike Babcock’s return as Oilers head coach and whether the core will actually buy in, dissect Florida’s aggressive moves (including landing Brady Tkachuk), goalie dilemmas, smart vs. questionable signings across the league, and the true value of role players who know their jobs. Other topics we touch on include: Jonathan Toews’ retirement, the 2026 Hockey Hall of Fame class, the Blue Jays’ injury battles and resurgence, plus some World Cup soccer predictions.
There will be plenty of things I miss once we are on the road, but at the top of the list I will miss getting together with the Brothers. I remember in 2022 when I started full time with the podcast that I wanted to inject some sports talk back into the show and the Brother’s Roundtable was my obvious choice. To this day they have been some of my favourite moments sitting in the studio. I will look forward to the day we get to do this again.
